Birds are often among the most obvious animals in any given ecosystem but some species are incredibly rare. The Mauritius kestrel, for example, was reduced to a single female bird and three male birds during the 1970's. Thankfully conservation efforts have seen a large increase in the population size of this small falcon. Here you can see a small selection of bird photographs from around the globe.
